RESCHEDULED: College Night 2019 with Partners For Achievement

College Night 2019

CFJ West will host its annual College Night on Tuesday, February 21st from 5:00 PM -8:00 PM at the Plainfield Township Community Center. The evening will have two events. First, Partners for Achievement will be returning and will deliver their 90 minute College Planning Workshop. Starting at 6:45 PM we'll have our college coaches panel. This panel consists of NCAA and NAIA Men's and Women's college coaches who will engage with participants in an interactive question-and-answer session about playing in college and the recruiting process.

Chicago Fire Juniors West is sponsoring a FREE college planning workshop presented by Oakbrook based Partners For Achievement. Parents and students from 7th - 11th grade are encouraged to attend! 

3 Steps to College Planning & Career Success

The is a 90 minute presentation designed to share the best practices of the college admissions, financial aid and career planning process.

Covered in the seminar will be: Building a strong college list, improving your admission odds at highly selective schools, writing a compelling college essay, finding schools that give the most merit or financial aid, FAFSA overview, scholarship search recommendations, creating a standout resume and landing internships.

Parents and students are invited to attend the 3 Steps To College Planning & Career Success workshop on Tuesday, February 5th at 5:00 p.m. Registration begins at 4:45 p.m. This event is hosted by the Chicago Fire Juniors West. Enter through Front doors.

The 90 minute workshop is designed to educate families about the best practices and key deadlines of the college planning process by covering the following topics and questions:

Step I

  • Student Assessment: What do colleges look for and how do you enhance your child's positioning?
  • School Selection: How do you create a good school list and why is it one of the most important aspects of the college planning process
  • College Admissions: What goes into writing a great essay and submitting a strong application?

Step II

  • Paying for College: What are your options - savings, loans, scholarships - and how do you minimize your potential out-of-pocket costs? 
  • Financial Aid Overview & Process: How is your Estimated Family Contribution (EFC) determined on the FAFSA, what other forms need to be completed and how does the financial aid process really work?
  • Award Package Review: How do you evaluate your financial aid award packages and can you appeal them to try to get more money from the schools?

Step III

  • College Transition: How will your child make a smooth transition from high school to prepare for academic success in college?
  • Professional Development: What strategies will help your child build a solid resume and land a good internship?
  • Career Planning: What skills and experience does your child need to have a job when they graduate?
